Anticipation is mounting as Sempra Homes, the housing subsidiary company of Basildon Council, prepares to launch its latest 100% affordable development at Bowers Close, London Road, Pitsea, Essex. This much-needed new development will deliver 31 high-quality new homes, providing greater access to affordable housing for local residents.
The development consists of 23 homes for Shared Ownership and 8 homes for affordable rent, all allocated to Council tenants, making housing more accessible for Basildon residents. The Shared Ownership homes will be prioritised for veterans, key workers and those living in the borough looking to take their first step onto the property ladder.
Melanie Keys, Services Manager at Sempra Homes comments, “Bowers Close will bring much-needed affordable homes to local people, helping them achieve homeownership and long-term housing stability. By supporting borough residents, key workers and veterans, we are ensuring that those who contribute to our communities have a fair opportunity to own their own home supporting Basildon Council’s Basildon Residents First approach. The development is set to launch in May, with the first home ready for occupation in the Summer.”
The homes will feature a traditional design and be constructed using a Fabric First Approach, prioritising energy efficiency while meeting National Space Standards and Secured by Design standards. The development will also incorporate soft landscaping and public green space, enhancing the suburban character and providing a tranquil environment for residents.
Situated on London Road, Bowers Close benefits from excellent public transport, pedestrian and cycle links ensuring residents have easy access to local amenities and wider transport networks.
The development has been made possible through a partnership with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund 2, delivered by One Public Estate Programme (OPE). Sempra Homes has been awarded £436,000 to support essential infrastructure works for the Bowers Close development.
Additionally, £948,000 of funding has been secured from Homes England’s Affordable Housing programme to support the delivery of the Shared Ownership homes. These will be develope alongside the rented homes which will be allocated as per the Council’s Housing Allocation Policy.
