Sustainable homebuilder Stonebond and Sempra Homes recently welcomed school children from Basildon’s Ghyllgrove Community Primary School to the Ghyllgrove Close development in Basildon to gain an interesting insight into the construction industry.
The scheme is being built on a brownfield site of a former care home that had been redundant for many years, transforming it to provide energy efficient affordable homes for the local community.
Ghyllgrove Close will consist of 34 new mixed tenure homes with private for sale and shared ownership homes available, as a result of a partnership between Stonebond and Sempra, the housebuilding arm of Basildon Council. The homes will include properties with two, three and four bedrooms, all built to high energy efficiency standards.
Offering an ideal opportunity to hear from the experts about how houses are constructed and the importance of onsite health and safety, the children from years three and four, were accompanied by three of their teachers. They also enjoyed a tour of two show homes, to spark the youngsters’ curiosity about the build process.
Lisa Morley, Deputy Headteacher at Ghyllgrove Community Primary School, comments: “We strive to provide a well-structured, engaging curriculum that inspires curiosity in the children, so were delighted to connect with Stonebond for a tour of the Ghyllgrove Close site. The children learned valuable lessons about health and safety and about how our homes are built, embracing the opportunity to think more about something that we often take for granted.”
Annette Cole, Sales & Marketing Director at Stonebond, commented: “We are committed to supporting the local communities where we build and to inspiring the next generation into a career in house building. We were delighted to welcome local pupils and teachers from Ghyllgrove Primary School to site to showcase the work that goes into producing such high-quality, thoughtfully designed homes while keeping everyone on site healthy and safe.”
The Ghyllgrove Close homes are located on the site of the former Ghyll Grove care home in Basildon, a new, fit-for-purpose replacement for which was completed and opened last year. The 34 homes are now breathing new life into the redundant brownfield site, creating 100 local jobs and providing much-needed affordable housing options.
Melanie Keys, Service Manager at Sempra, commented: “Providing opportunities for borough residents is at the heart of what we do and I was delighted to welcome the pupils and teaching staff to our Ghyllgrove development to give them an insight to a busy construction site, in action, building new homes for residents now and future generations."
